Alcatraz Remote Access (ARA) allows you to carry out certain actions on an Alcatraz Recorder from a remote PC. You can remote control and gain remote access to one or more Alcatraz systems via a standard telephone line (analogue or ISDN) or a direct RS-232 connection to the PC.
ARA therefore covers three essential functions of remote surveillance:
- Live video surveillance:
Ara transfers the live images provided by the the connected cameras to an authorized PC.
-
Remote control:
ARA provides an extensive range of possibilities to remotely control nearly all functions of the Alcatraz system via PC. The user is presented with the familiar Alcatraz user interface.
-
Image and video transfer:
ARA can send the data from the Alcatraz Recorder to the PC as either photos or video footage. This means that surveillance videos that have already been recorded can be checked and evaluated via PC.
ARA requires no special technology or cabling for these areas of use. You require merely a PC or notebook running Windows and a connection to the telephone net.
This enormous flexibility and versatility opens an array of applications to ARA:
- Remote maintenance of several Alcatraz recorders via one central computer.
An example would be several gas stations being controlled from one central
supervisory location. You would not require personal attendance.
- Access to evidence photos or videos without being there.
- Remote control of areas such as a private holiday resort or private
property in a foreign country.
- Use of the Alcatraz recorder in critical areas which normally complicate
the access to the unit, such as in specially protected areas. All important
functions can be accessed via ARA from the distance.
The ARA-specific transfer format and the password protection help to make sure that only authorized personnel can access the given Alcatraz unit.
